What Each Color Band Means

Maximum Bubble Territory

The market is extremely overheated. Historically, prices in this band marked major cycle tops.

Sell. Seriously, SELL!

Strongly overvalued relative to the long-term trend — historically a distribution zone.

FOMO Intensifies

Fear of missing out takes over and price runs far above the regression mid-line.

Is This a Bubble?

Price is stretched above trend — late-stage bull-market territory.

HODL!

Fairly valued around the long-term growth path. Historically a "hold" zone.

Still Cheap

Below the long-term trend — historically a favourable zone for long-term positioning.

Accumulate

Clearly undervalued versus trend — historically an accumulation zone.

BUY!

Deeply below trend. Historically, bear-market bottoms formed in this band.

Basically a Fire Sale

The cheapest band relative to trend — reached only at extreme capitulation lows.

What Is the Bitcoin Rainbow Chart?

The Bitcoin Rainbow Chart plots the full BTC/USD price history on a logarithmic scale and overlays nine colored bands derived from a logarithmic regression curve. The regression is fitted to daily prices since 2010, and the colored bands are equal slices of the historical deviation range around that curve.

When the price climbs into the upper red bands, the market has historically been overheated; when it sinks into the lower blue and purple bands, Bitcoin has historically been undervalued relative to its long-term growth path. The chart is a popular long-term sentiment gauge — it is not a prediction tool and past patterns do not guarantee future results.

How This Chart Is Calculated

We fit a logarithmic regression of the form log10(price) = a × ln(days since 2009-01-03) + b against the complete daily BTC price history. The nine rainbow bands are equally spaced slices (in log space) between the largest historical deviations below and above the fitted curve, so the price curve has touched both the purple and the dark-red band at least once in history.

Price history is refreshed daily from public market data, and the current price updates every minute. The regression is re-fitted on every load, so the bands slowly adapt as new data arrives — exactly like the original rainbow chart.

FAQ

Is the Bitcoin Rainbow Chart a price prediction?
No. It is a visualization of historical price behaviour around a logarithmic regression curve. It has no predictive power and should be treated as entertainment / a long-term sentiment lens, not financial advice.
Which band is Bitcoin in right now?
The band shown in the "Current Band" indicator above is computed live from the latest BTC price and the fitted regression. It updates automatically.
Why a logarithmic scale?
Bitcoin has grown by many orders of magnitude since 2010. A log scale makes early and recent price action comparable, and long-term growth appears as an almost straight regression curve.
Where does the price data come from?
Daily BTC/USD history since 2010 comes from public blockchain market data and is refreshed every few hours; the spot price is refreshed about once per minute.

What is Bitcoin?

Bitcoin (BTC) is the world's first and largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization — a decentralized digital currency that runs on a peer-to-peer blockchain network without banks or a central authority. Its supply is capped at 21 million coins, and the Bitcoin price (currently around $75,889) is set purely by supply and demand on exchanges trading 24/7. This site tracks the live Bitcoin Rainbow Chart, so you can see at a glance which valuation band the BTC price sits in today.
